SLEEPFASTING RITE:
AURORA'S AXE

Theory: The sleep/waking boundary is a basic distinction of/in awareness. Other distinctions may be promoted to its level to compensate for its temporary elimination.

Practice: The practitioner must have a great amount and variety of work, especially productive work, to do. No psychoactive drugs are neccessary or desired for this rite, and both sedatives and psychedelics are to be avoided especially. Ideally, the rite will last a full week. It is best performed between the vernal equinox and summer solstice.

The sigil of Raflifu (viz. Liber CCXXXI) should be worn as a lamen by the practitioner.

Throughout the rite, the practitioner does not sleep. Begin with a full invocation of Raflifu--a hexagram ritual invoking Sol--followed by another hexagram ritual to banish Luna. This activity is best performed shortly before dawn. Thereafter, at 24-hour intervals, repeat the invocation and banish one planet, proceding in order: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. For the banishings, whatever gods, demons, angels, or genii are most germane to the practitioner's usual work should be employed. i.e. if Hebrew archangels are most familiar, they will work best; if Egyptial gods are most accustomed, they should be used; &c.

Tips on sticking it out through this rite: Eat well and frequently, but do not eat large portions. Change clothes every eight to twenty-four hours. Hang out with other people. Spend time outdoors. Travel. Don't read; write. Don't listen to music; sing or play an instrument. Use the most labor-intensive means of performing any task.

If the practitioner succumbs to sleep before the end of the week, that does not indicate failure of the rite. Virtually anyone will begin to get results (of a subtle nature) after the banishing of Mercury. Radical effects should set in by the time Mars is banished.

Sample Rubric:

This same ritual would be repeated daily, varying only the direction, name, and hexagram for the planet banished.
