Magickal Record of Louis Martinie': October 1999

Friday 1
Better work on the honor ms. More will on my part after having seen Lilith. Reconnected to the possible importance of what I'm doing to others.

Saturday 2
Went to the Orisha Gardens with Lilith and Linda and Marty. Stone and metal alters and huge outdoor sculptures of hands dug into the earth and filled with concrete. The surface was being decorated with colored glass and stones. This is a good addition to the spirituality of Bloomington.

Sunday 3
Lilith left today. I pray for her every day in the morning.

Monday 4
Good session on the Honor mss.

Tuesday 5
Called Miriam. She is back from Russia. Steven is in Paris. I said to her that being in Bloomington is like being in Tibet. In fact, Mr. Norbu said it is more like the old Tibet than going to the country of Tibet now.

Wednesday 6
Tibetan Library. On floor with two monks arranging the books. This is the first day without a headache from lack of caffeine.

Thursday 7
Work of banishing ms. I began to write and it occurred tome how, in some situations, banishing was like imperialism. The magickian picks a piece of territory of value to him and then ousts all of the spirits native to the territory. No headache.

Friday 8
Studying Tibetan letters, if not the language with the monks. This is such an opportunity.

Talking to T on the phone. Sounded full of life and enthusiasm. He's listed as terminal but says he will stay in this life by his will. He says that he sees me in all reflective surfaces. The water that he baths in, that he pees in, the mirror. He said that I am his heart and I said that he is my heart. He is my Brother.

Saturday 9
All right...this is it. I have stopped with e mail, I have stopped listening to the messages on the telephone, and I have stopped writing letters and only slept 4 hours last night. Though other nights I do sleep much more. Not even making magickal record entries though I am keeping notes for entries. So...I am going to spend less time on the Honor Ms and Tibet. I knew it would take more time than working in New Orleans but I'm dropping too much.

RITUAL: Drum Rite
WILL: Welcome the Fall Spirits
LOVE: Order of Service; emphasis on Legba
SUCCESS: well done
COMMENT: No wave of Fall Spirits this year probably due to lack of rain. None of the odd green light upon which they usually ride was present. Raining for the last few days and they are here. They must have come in gradually.

Sunday 10
Reading Zen book on listening. "The sound of listening." Wonderful phrase. This is important for drumming. Signed back onto Internet.

Monday 11
Tibetan Language lesson. This is a great opportunity. But I must consider will. Time will follow if I am doing my will.

Tuesday 12
Mishlen reminded me again about my hat changing colors. I lost it the night of the Bon Po talk in the room. When I found it a few weeks later Mishlen maintains it had changed color to be more like the maroon of a monks robe. This is not something I can see but then Mishlen is more familiar with colors than I am.

Wednesday 13
Into the fall forest with my love. This is my first fall in almost 10 years.

Thursday 14
Recording session for Moonweb. Trying to get the drum rhythms we use at the temple down on CD and then up on Moonweb so that those interested can learn them.

Friday 15
Ah! The library at the Tibetan Center is visibly coming together.

Saturday 16
Passive. I have to force myself to stop working on the honor ms.

Sunday 17
Dinner with the monks. I really do like them and learn much from their behavior. I'm not so much interested in questions and answers as to see how they conduct themselves after too little rest or when a project falls apart.

Monday 18
Stayed at the Center to see a monk making tormas. These tormas are a substitute for animal sacrifice. Very complex to make.

Tuesday 19
RITUAL: Puja to Tara at Tibetan Center
WILL: Strengthen connection to Tara
LOVE: Become emptiness into which the chanting of the monks poured.
SUCCESS: Very Strong
COMMENT: Three hours. Only a woman and I there.

Wednesday 20
Study Tibetan. With the writing I have little time open to study. That's ok, the wrting is more an expression of my will.

Thursday 21
RITUAL: Legba
WILL: For TC
LOVE: Litany of the Loa. Followed by a long series of calls to Legba to help TC.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMENT: Recorded calls from Litany of the Loa for hopeful placement on Moonweb and later a CD.

Friday 22
Sick from flu shot on Wednesday. This usually lasts one day.

Saturday 23
Well...Studying the Tibetan language. Before I studied Hebrew. Both languages are important for magickal and mystical growth. Spoke with Mishlen's teacher. He said that if you help someone who doesn't want help, that it is a (subtle) form of egoism. Never thought of such a situation in that way.

Sunday 24
RITUAL: Mange to the Forest Loa
WILL: Feeding the whistle pigs who live by the house
LOVE: Three plates of food.
SUCCESS: Good
COMMENT: The whistle pigs are truly spirits of the forest.

Monday 25
A friend grew sick at Tibetan class. She said she didn't need help. Could barely stand and wanted to drive home. Ha! Last Saturday and Mishlen's teachers words. I took the middle path and did not push her not driving but followed her home. She only acquiesced when I said I was doing it for myself because I was worried. Very good.

Making preparations to do an alter to Manman Brigitte for TC. Spoke to TC and he sounds good. He agreed to the alter.

Tuesday 26
RITUAL: altar to Manman Brigitte
WILL: Present TC's case for Manman's consideration
LOVE: Constructed alter of stones in fireplace of the bottom room of the Arlington House; Litany of the Loa, Banda to Manman, Presented TC as having a good heart and much more to give.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: Not at Soma but at home in the fireplace.

Wednesday 27
To New Orleans
RITUAL: To the ancestors of this land
WILL: Thanks and welcome.
LOVE: Libations, anointed self with the earth
SUCCESS: Good
COMMENT: Hot and moist

Thursday 28
I love the courtyard. The old bricks and Banana Trees.

Friday 29
RITUAL: Ellegua and Legba
WILL: Thanks for keeping house sake
LOVE: Chant to Legba and inscribed crossroads with cigar smoke, smoke to Ellegua
SUCCESS: Very Good
COMMENT: The smoke given to Ellegua lingered long on the concrete head and in the clay plate. Crossroads with smoke from mouth tip of cigar.

Saturday 30
Celtic Fest. A celebration of Samhain as the beginning of the new Celtic Year. Very rainy. Most appropriate for Samhain. Libation of Mead to the Celtic Gods and Goddesses.

Sunday 31
RITUAL: Super Dome for the Saints Football team. WILL: Remove any curse they may have on them. They have been loosing consistently.
LOVE: Short Litany of the Loa. Cleansing with incense and potion.
SUCCESS: Very Strong.
COMMENT: Priestess Miriam took what was essentially a media event and turned it into a teaching and real ritual. When the news asked her if she thought the Saints were cursed, Miriam said that we are all cursed to some extent...we all need healing. These kinds of things satisfy my desire to play in a band. A lot like a concert. Saints lost the game with a Hail Mary play at the last moment. Hummm...the stadium is said to be built on a Protestant graveyard and the Saints, I believe, are Roman Catholic.

Celtic Fest. Voodoo and the Druids. Still very wet.

RITUAL: Wedding
WILL: A joining of two souls
LOVE: Parade in the Quarter. Long Litany of the Loa with emphasis on Erzulie and Mama Waters. Banda to the Barons and Guedes.
SUCCESS: They are united.
COMMENT: Man, good to drum with Joey again. Miriam spoke at length on how it is good to be prepared to go it alone if one of the partners passes.
