Magickal Record of Louis Martinie': November 1999

Monday 1
It seems like we think of ourselves as the pinnacle of evolution. There are so many life forms considered to be below us. There are all visible and able to be directly apprehended. The only forms we consider to be more advanced or equal to us are invisible to our eyes. There are so many below us and so few above. This is perhaps because we are looking in the wrong places or with the wrong eyes.

The ancestors of Buddhism are closely related to the kind mothers in Buddhism.

Tuesday 2
Long session writing to complete the Introduction to the Honor ms.

Wednesday 3
Posted Honor ms and began work again on Banishing ms. To Pensacola to celebrate posting of Honor ms. and to work on Banishing mss.

Thursday 4
RITUAL: To the Ocean and all within it
WILL: Honor and respect.
LOVE: Anoint self with seawater
SUCCESS: Beautiful
COMMENT: So large. I much prefer the sea in fall.

Long session on Banishing ms.

Friday 5
Good work on Banishing ms for Blackmoon chapbook. The ocean is a fine place for me to write. Its beautiful but I should not spend too much time outside due to sun sensitivity. Great sit by window and to write.

Saturday 6
RITUAL: Ocean; Sun entering the Water
WILL: Marassa; Take the fire of creativity into self
LOVE: Anointed self with the Water, Marassa in Sand
SUCCESS: Fine current
COMMENT: Fire and Water as Marassa

Sunday 7
Walking on the beach found the bodies of about 6 sea snakes. Skate egg cases around. Tired fell asleep at 10:30.

Monday 8
RITUAL: Fort Pickins, Pensacola, FL
WILL: Honor and Respect to Geronimo
LOVE: On the ramparts of the old fort. Offering of food, butter, and milk. Visualized the canoes he would look for in the sea. The canoes that had come to take him home.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: So many kept him prisoner. Now offerings are made to him.

Back to New Orleans

Tuesday 9
House. Leaky water pipes. I worked on them from about 8:30 till 2 when the plumber came. An underground leak.

Wednesday 10
Art galleries. Bloomington has so much to offer in many different ways...but Bloomington art lacks passion and creative joy. I grow larger when I can view art like this.

Thursday 11
RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple
WILL: Veteran's Day, Rite to the Oguns
LOVE: Litany of the loa; Long version
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: How beautiful to be with all of those at the Temple in ritual. The Temple is moving from large ritual with the drumming. Moving toward more teaching.

Friday 12
Want to communicate more within the 11 Star Ritual. I feel that I have been neglectful. More discipline would make my life more interesting.

Saturday 13
Considering the Marassa Ritual at the ocean. No one seems to know where the word Marassa came from. I believe that it is derived from Mar Assa (Sea of Asia) in Spanish. Columbus would have called the sea by this name in that he thought he had found an alternate route to Asia. The first enslaved Africans were brought over just a few years after his initial voyage. They would have heard the sea called this by the Europeans.
The sea is a place of twinning on an immense sale.
The sun (fire) entering the water and emerging from it.
The water and the earth.

Sunday 14
E-mail from the translator for the Bon Po. I have much to write to him.

Monday 15
Complete Travel In Tibet book. A great antidote for much of the idealization of Tibetan Culture.

Tuesday 16
Began Old Souls. A book on the study of reincarnation from a western scientific viewpoint. Excellent book.
I do not even remember a good portion of my past night dreams. Hoe could I expect to remember more of my previous lives?

Wednesday 17
RITUAL: House Temple; Drum rite
WILL: What is best for Julia and Singh
LOVE: Litany of the loa; long form
SUCCESS: Fair
COMMENT: No strong possession. An earlier rite to help Singh get his papers to cross the border to be with Julia was abandoned. Julia, Mishlen, and I were given adverse advice, omens.
I had the honor of being the first to bow to Julia's new drum.

Thursday 18
Study Tibetan. The letters are so beautiful, and complicated.

Friday 19
Mishlen had her head on my chest this morning as I had an orgasm. She was startled to hear a low humming sound. She believes it is the sound of the muscles tensing and then relaxing after the organism.

Saturday 20
Farewell for now to the Quarter and to the Irish Channel. The drumming on Thursday's at the Voodoo Spiritual Temple is something of the past. It is odd to think that I do more at the Tibetan Center than at the Temple.

Sunday 21
To Bloomington from New Orleans.
An idea while speaking to Mishlen: Buddhism. In Sutra there is an emphasis on testing, checking out all that you hear to see if it is true. In Tantra there is a contrary emphasis on accepting the advice of your teacher with out question if that advice does not contradict sutra.

Monday 22
Arrive Bloomington.
RITUAL: To the ancestors
WILL: Honor and respect to the ancestors in the Fall
LOVE: Offering of beer and apple cider
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: I am glad that I am here to do this.

Tuesday 23
Refreshed commitment to will. A good time to return to Bloomington.

Wednesday 24
Working on a concise history of Tibet for the Honor Ms. So any misconceptions. Christianity is actually more ancient than Tibetan Buddhism.

Thursday 25
Thought is a type of attention.
Writing depends on thinking.
Reading depends on thinking.
Conversation depends on thinking.
Planning depends on thinking.

I can be attentive to the road while driving without thinking.
I can be attentive to the path while walking without thinking.
Drumming depends on drumming.
Once the will is set. No thought is necessary.

The point is to pay attention to what I am doing, be that thinking or driving.
The point is to do what I am doing and to be what I am in the moment.

Awakening looks like doing exactly what is necessary and nothing more.
This engenders a sense of elegance.
Doing what ever I am doing the best I can, the most precisely.
If I am sitting, sit well.
If I am walking, walk well.
Then all is well.

Friday 26
Informal dinner with the monks. Nietzsche said that a philosopher preaches with his example. This is a great, perhaps the best way to learn.

Saturday 27
Marty pointed out that if you know a dogs name it is much less apt to attack you, and that this is much the same for daemons.

Sunday 28
Rest.

Monday 29
Talked to Don. He used an old Tibetan farewell.
The person leaving is told to "Go Slow"
S/he responds with "Stay Slow."

Tuesday 30
Begin prep for Horus Maat Lodge Dark Moon Rite.
