Monday 1: RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Honor and respect to the loa
LOVE: Order of Service. Mama Waters and Ogu
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: A coming together of the two loa. Iron Water.
A good healing feel to this. Ogu Waters. Waters that Strengthen. Water from a blacksmiths forge.
Tuesday 2: Contacted group in Vienna and Bloomington about the seminar and rituals. It is the time to make plans and prepare for the summer.
Wednesday 3: Contacted about possibly teaching a course on Voodoo in Bloomington. Not feeling too well.
Thursday 4: Rest. Ah! I am sick. No ritual to night.
Friday 5: Sick...Rest.
Saturday 6: Sick...Rest. I have Mishlen in my morning devotions; health and awakening. This morning as she absorbed/was absorbed into the awakened ones; she became the trees and all of nature.

I am beginning to be able to tell the difference between being sick and depression.
Sunday 7: Sick
Monday 8: Brandi is opening a new Voodoo shop. Not in the French Quarter but on Canal Street. Looks like we will drum for the opening.
Brandi was a student of Priestess Muslima. Now she is opening her own shop.
Tuesday 9: Pere Antoine with Miriam and Mishlen to celebrate Miriam's Birthday. They only take cash, which I did not have. Had to drive home and get the money. It is good to be embarrassed on occasion.
Wednesday 10: Migratory states of mind and our status as migratory beings are in some way deeply interlinked. I forget between lives and between dreams. I lose keys and lives and at times, even my shoes. To remember all is a part of awakening.
Thursday 11: Work on Spider Rites for Vienna. The why and the logistics of the ritual.
Friday 12: Work on Spider rites. The use of these rites to uncover the stable island that is central to all of our migrations.
Saturday 13: Ah! Rites of Spring. Large parade on Magazine Street with the riders throwing cabbages, green beads, and green paper flowers. Now many of the wrought iron fences on Magazine have cabbages on their spikes.
I caught a cabbage in full flight. Great offering for the Damballah Ayida welcoming ritual.

Marty and Linda arrived from Bloomington. Very good.
Sunday 14: Sent description for Vienna Ritual out.

New Orleans Voodoo Insect Loa/ Spider Rites

"The ritual will invite the nation of spider loa to enter the involved Voodoosants. The Order of Service used at the New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple will be described in esoteric and exoteric detail and utilized to create a space pleasing to these loa so that they may enter the participants.

The aims of the ritual are both magickal and mystical: Magick - a technique will be taught to call these loa and to prepare one's body to accept them. Mysticism - uses of the spider loa in creating a stable base for the participants migratory personality.

The ritual can be attended as a participant or "shadow." In our tradition, a shadow is a person attending a ritual to observe only. In the formal sense, he or she is vouched for by a ritualist and walks behind that ritualist.

Emphasis will be on drumming, dance, and vocal calls.

While prior experience is helpful, there is much to be said for trying something new. I will be bringing a lot of handouts so that participation rather than note taking can be emphasized."
Monday 15: Preparation for Horus Maat Rite on Wednesday. Passed the ritual texts to Linda and Marty. It will be interesting to feel the presence of the Lodge during the rite. Good friends . . . new comrades.
Tuesday 16: Review ritual text with Marty. Mishlen and Linda will probably perform the rites.
Wednesday 17: RITUAL: Initiation to 93/696 Current; With Linda and Marty.
WILL: Initiate Linda into the current
LOVE: Rite as per HML, fit to will. Rather than banishing I called Papa to open the gate. Short form of Litany.
(Marassa/Legba/Mort/Mysteries (Maat and Horus) /Buddhas). Cobalt mirror used to good effect. In moving around Linda, Marty and I scattered cards from the NightSide and Thoth decks.
Linda chose Four cards by feel. Cards: NightSide Deck....Set(26) and Judgement(31) / Thoth Deck...Moon and Chariot. SUCCESS: Strong influx with hands to Linda's head.
COMMENT: All actions were inevitable. One flowed directly from the other.

RITUAL: Birthing of Horus Maat Lodge
WILL: To work with our brothers and sisters in this rite of creation.
LOVE: HML Basic Rite. I did the esoteric Order of Service I use at the Thursday night New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple Drum Rituals. This esoteric order of Service invokes a birth. Legba opens the gate of the womb. Ogun clears the way. The entity to be birthed rides within and upon MamaWaters. Damballah/Ayida, the snake, is the umbilical cord. Buddhas are the step beyond.
SUCCESS: I saw a globe composed of glowing lines running from bottom to top. Upon reaching the top of the globe, they cascaded into a hole. I saw this from a top view.
COMMENT: We were part of a fine birth.

RITUAL: Snakes of Wedo ascent from the depths of the earth into the heavens.
WILL: Feed and strengthen the snakes in their coming.
LOVE: Offering of a cabbage leaf, containing red palm oil in lieu of blood and green beads (I believe that the first necklaces or beads were snake vertebra).

SUCCESS: Union . . . The snakes had their eyes closed. To say that the snakes are separate from/travel through the earth is a convenience of expression. With them there was no separation so movement was out of the question. Left offering at base of tree in Courtyard.
COMMENT: Odd half visible figure in courtyard upon my awakening the next morning.
Thursday 18: RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Celebration of Spring
LOVE: Order of Service with emphasis on Damballah and Ayida rising.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: Marty and Linda at the rite. Very good.
Friday 19: Rest and Sleep . . . something I have been putting off a bit too long.
Saturday 20: Ah! Pelican Publishing has declined the Congo Square mss.
Sunday 21: Completed THE MOVIEGOER by Walker Percy. Good thoughts on vertical and horizontal searches. One being a search within the new the other being a search within the familiar.
Monday 22: Irritated mental state the whole day. Breaks all day. I could strengthen my mind as an instrument of Will by more meditation but still do not do it. Lazy.
Tuesday 23: Horus Maat Lodge and the construction of an astral machine to assist Maat in manifesting.
Wednesday 24: Ah! Possibly I can do the Spider Rites at StarWood.

SUCCESS: strong, moving
COMMENT: More men are needed at the Temple. Miriam was speaking about this. I can see the truth in it. Almost all women at the rite.
Friday 26: Sick. This flu keeps coming back. Just as I heard it would.
Saturday 27: Reading again Notes From Underground by Dostoevsky. The character is estranged from his culture with no spiritual refuge. Without spirit; the situation described in the book is among the honorable alternatives. Good reminder to me to hold to spirit.
Sunday 28: RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple; Erzulie Palm Ritual WILL: To the Mothers; to Erzulie
LOVE: Order of Service with emphasis on the Great Mothers as expressed through Erzulie.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: Miriam possessed by the Mothers called me "a Legba." This fits. I seem to be able to open doors for others but then go back to my own work.
Monday 29: Posted Fulbright. Now to wait and see.
Tuesday 30: Work on StarWood proposals. A sure sign that summer is coming.
Wednesday 31: Received new research on Dr. John. Wonderful! Information from the census. Strong verification of his historical existence and location of home on Bayou St John.
