The Magickal Record of Louis Martinie': June 1998

Monday 1
Last day of school. I received an award as Visionary of the Year. The pressure on time is letting up. Reflection is possible.

Tuesday 2
Reconstruct MR from notes for last 5 months. There is now the time for introspection. I believe that the MR section is a very important portion of MoonWeb. I am glad that I will again be participating in it.

Wednesday 3
Mishlen is feeling worse. The meds are holding. No shaking as usually associated with post traumatic stress syndrome. No period for three months. Stress? My life is by no means calm, but I now have the time to write and to rest.

Thursday 4
Doctors for Mishlen. I am fearful of another episode. I must meditate to increase my equanimity. Past 4 month MR to MoonWeb. The Magickal Record section is an (the) most important part of MoonWeb. It is good that I am participating in it again.

Friday 5
Letter to Little Bear. The first letter I've written in months. Singh and Julia came over after going to a panel discussion of about four Mombos. They said that right toward the end, about half of the panel was suddenly possessed. Great!

Saturday 6
RITUAL - A Philadelphia group on Congo Square.
I stood and watched the drummers. So beautiful to be able to participate through listening rather than playing. It is the balance of active/passive that I crave. In so many rituals I am active.

Sunday 7
Complete reading Dharma Bums. The forwards thrust of Kerovac's will is what makes this an important work. "And have big wild gangs of pure holy men getting together to drink and talk and pray." Strong vision.

Monday 8
Beginning work on the chapbook suggested by Mishlen, the subject being Tibetan Buddhism and Western Occultism. I'm going to get Voodoo in there somehow.

Tuesday 9
Congo Square Manuscript...it is so close to being complete. Now just to find the last few pieces.

Wednesday 10
To Bloomington. Equanimity is difficult with either pride or humbleness. Each is distracting. I tend more toward pride.

Thursday 11
Arrive Bloomington
RITUALS: The land is different...the Spirits are different. Food and water to the Ancestor and to these Spirits.

Friday 12
Set up alter with the my Familiar, Loa, and Buddhas. To work all of these currents together is quite an adventure.

Saturday 13
Tibetan Buddhism Book - I will be writing about a third. When I first started going to Tibetan Buddhism functions I asked a practitioner about Voodoo and the Ancestors. His answer came out to only the Buddhas. I later asked a Lama and he explained that there was no contradiction. Perhaps that is the most important thing I can communicate in the portion of the book I am working on.

Sunday 14
RITUAL - Tibetan Center...A lama was there and we all chanted. He used the low, multi tonal voice. So many inexplicable sounds coming from different parts of the room. The chanting continued for maybe 30 seconds after we all stopped. Very High. The lama blessed meditation beads. Mine fell to the floor; blessed by the ancestor also. Mr. Norbu has had a stroke. He called me over and we shook hands. Talked briefly. A Blessing.

Monday 15
I have begun doing my morning devotions to he Buddhas, Loa, and my Familiar Spirits before a large painting of the Tree Of Life that is to the side of the Temple doors here. Very nice...the devotions start in the Ains and move on the Tree to Malkuth.

Tuesday 16
Begin Kalachakra (wheel of time) book. In Tibetan, "wang" means power. Interesting in light of Voodoo and Liber L.

Wednesday 17
Tascam recorder in for repair. Once this is taken care of, I can begin to work on the rhythms from the Temple.

Thursday 18
Work on backlog that has accumulated over the last 2 or so months. These matters hang on the edges of the minds I generate and leak wang (ha! picked up a new word).

Friday 19
Buddhism and Magick mss. Woking on outline of topics for my part of the mss.

Saturday 20
Reading Kalachakra. It is odd that possibly the most esoteric of the Tantric empowerments is given to large groups of people.

Sunday 21
RITUALS Summer Solstice: Sanga at Tibetan Center The Sun through the crystal eye of the Chorton Beer to the Ancestors. Liquid Offering to the Great Snake at the highest point of its climb.

Monday 22
Working on the StarWood Midnight Ritual. Sending a big pacquet down to New Orleans to Miriam. A huge storm has knocked out all of the electrics. I do think that the weather is more exciting here than in New Orleans. New Orleans weather is characterized by short, violent episodes. Calm...2 inches of rain in an hour...calm. The all day rains here are a good change. Lord, I'm writing about the weather and its storms. You can tell I am wed to a devote of Oya.

Tuesday 23
To Cincinnati to work on estate. I had to go through Elaine's purse and wallet looking for papers. So personal. I sat on her bed while doing this. It seemed respectful.

Wednesday 24
I am working so much on the Estate, that it is difficult for me to give my word...to plan more than 12 hours in advance. There is so much with the Estate that must be done immediately. And one task leads to another.

Thursday 25
To Cincinnati for a recording session with Owen. So good. You never know what you are going to play or recite. Owen almost always keeps the first takes. You play without having heard the full track previously. The joy of the unexpected. Owen and Emily chanted and I did a prayer to Legba with the gate becoming "gate."

Friday 26
Oh Lord, It is as if everything went wrong for Mishlen and I today. Feel so bad, so off center.

Saturday 27
Ah! Expectations. I had plans as to my time. Magick, study, Black Moon, and write. The estate has taken up all of this time and more. Wisdom of no escape is an apt antidote. More toward the axil of the wheel.

Sunday 28
RITUAL - Tibetan Center. Low chanting of the lama. Remembered the time I was taken by the insect loa. The only words that fit the experience were "fierce allegiance to life."The Tibetans have a big teaching about not taking life. It fits well with my experience with the insects.

Monday 29
Work on estate. Quite a job and one that does not end at 5 PM. So many papers and issues. One paper leading to another and one issue leading to another.

Tuesday 30
To Cincinnati to work on estate. Arrived late in the evening. The house sits quiet and within it there is the sense that time stopped when Elaine passed.
