Wednesday 1: Bloomington...Large Buddha eyes on the wall stare down at me as I lie on the bed. Quiet.
Thursday 2: To New Orleans from Bloomington. Spent a good part of the trip very minutely analyzing just what was sense data and what was meaning and interpretation I laid on top of this strictly sense data.
Friday 3: I have only been gone from the house in New Orleans for a short time but I see the house with new eyes. It as is if our minds grew large to include the rooms of the house. Our personalities line the shelves and walls.
Saturday 4: Heard that T and C were leaving town for Texas. I am surprised at how sad I am. T has been a friend for over 20 years and much of what I know about the magicks I had learnt with him.; his leaving will lessen my life.
Sunday 5: RITUAL:Voodoo Spiritual Temple; Expedition to Da(mask)
WILL: Examine changes in the mask.
LOVE: Countenance to countenance; no mirror used.
SUCCESS: The mask that projects the essence of Da has become more human in appearance. The face does not go through the rapid changes that characterized it in the past. Strong sense that this member of the Da family is taking incarnation in a human form. Mask moved between look of death and birth.
COMMENT: This is the first time I have observed this in progress. I am fascinated.
Monday 6: ISBN numbers for Black Moon publications. All publications now will be in Books In Print listing. If the information Black Moon is making available is important, and I know that it is, then a wider distribution is important.
Tuesday 7: The Voodoo section of MoonWeb will soon be up with photos of Oswan's Funeral. I did part of the mss for this and tried to place the mss into my files on the internet. The Mss came out as a confused jumble. In the jumble of words and letters I found this message. "from W (went to next line) BRlso my wifes name". Tried again and got problems. Checked the original file and it was OK. Sent Oswan's file and another file. The other file got through and Oswan's file seemed to cause the screen to scroll. Gave up. Oswan is trying to say something but the manner he is using, while sensitive, is confusing.
Wednesday 8: Retyped whole file and got the same type of problems. The message wiped out all of my files on the laptop. I'm going to have to send this off by post.
Thursday 9: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple
WILL: Honor and Respect to the Ancestors
LOVE: Litany of the Loa Shongo being particularly honored. Fine Ogun presence. Wild dance is a very limited space. Misses hitting people by inches.
SUCCESS: all properly done
COMMENT: Miriam, taken by spirit, spoke of following the light within. The words came me,"Follow the light that needs no Dark to shine. Follow the Dark that needs no Light to cast its ebony brilliance." Gordon Melton was at the ritual leading a tour from California. He said "Louis and I have known each other for over 20 years." An aggerate with T.
Friday 10: Birthday....Miriam said that every day is your birth day. I like that.
Saturday 11: Equanimity; without attachment and avoidance. This now makes sense to me when I illustrate it to myself using magnets. One magnet being pushed (avoidance) or pulled (attachment) by the other magnet. Just reaction without will; mechanical with no choice. Ogun with his strength and solidity is a good protector of equanimity. Ogun's extreme lack of equanimity in some situations makes him ideal for the job. Library...So much there of value but piles of paper and books everywhere. So much is electronic now that I have let the paper and books fall into disorder.
Sunday 12: Meeting at Voodoo Spiritual Temple. Met a man named Petros from eastern Europe, former Soviet Union. He is a translator and we spoke of his translating WATERS OF RETURN into the Slavic? language. He said there is a great thirst for spiritual knowledge and an interest in voodoo. I told him he could keep all profits from the publication in the Slavic countries ($2.55?) if he made the translation. From his name, Petros, I was looking for him to act as a foundation for some find of work. This may be it.
Monday 13: I have been given material on the 1811 Slave Revolt that took place here. I have heard of this revolt and its freedom fighters for years but could find little information on the revolt. I now have a list of the names of some of those killed in the revolt.
Tuesday 14: Voodoo Spiritual Temple Meeting Much of the mundane concerns of running the Temple covered at this meeting. Reminds me of a line in a book I am reading (in paraphrase),"If you can't see the work of Spirit in the dishes you are washing, then you are limiting Spirit."
Wednesday 15: Studying Tibetan philosophy and ended up with an upset stomach. Outside of direct cognizance from the loa, the Tibetans are the only ones who can do this. I remember years ago, seeing Frater Achads Tree of Life and feeling queesy. Mishlen just looked at me and said,"No ground to stand on." That pretty much catches it
Thursday 16: RITUAL:Voodoo Spiritual Temple/Voodoo Museum - Drum Rite to Legba
WILL: Introduce Suzie to Papa
LOVE: Calls to Papa To Open the Gate. Pleading of a Child lost in the Visible World.
SUCCESS: Strong presence
COMMENT: I do not believe that the Voodoo is the correct path for Suzie at this time. Two Spiritual Houses working together...Tasty!
Friday 17: Sexual Magick...at finish a flower left as an offering fell from its vase. I like these kind of dense confirmations. School Drum Group...Discussion of Maat text to build coolness and character. Using a very powerful text translated by the parish's cultural unit.
Saturday 18: Mishlen...A magickal vow is the conscious creation or taking on of karma.
Sunday 19: Meditation at Voodoo Spiritual Temple. Miriam spoke on unity between the anglo and afro communities and self reliance. She sat by the Marie Laveau alter as she spoke. A major attribute of Marie Laveau is connection. She brought blacks and whites together in her ceremonies. I am struck by the similarities in both of these Priestesses philosophies. -What is the relationship (if any) between) Doctor and Bocor? Root Doctor a magickian.
Monday 20: Looks as if Mishlen and I will be in England next year. The newness/novelty is very attractive. So much could be learned.
Tuesday 21 RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple/Voodoo Museum WILL:Honor and Respect to Spirit LOVE:Litiny of the Loa; Madame La Lune strong SUCCESS: Personal experience of water as the blood of the earth. COMMENT: Student of Charles named Babalon present. She is the first person I have meet who I see as having the Masa Loa as Master of the Head. I am sure that the Masa and their association with water have given me this insight into waters nature.
Wednesday 22: Congo Square Mss....Realization that the book ends with Lizabeth saying that the "view" is worth the problems that come with being honest to yourself.
Thursday 23: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple
WILL: Bring coolness to the city
LOVE:Liteny followed by the Calls and the Dance
SUCCESS: Atmosphere very calm after rite.
COMMENT: With the SuperBowl, there has been an upsurge in tension in the city. You can almost taste it in your mouth on Rampart Street.
Friday 24: News that a woman bunjie jumper died at the SuperDome. This activity was sacred in its original form and this is a sacrifice for the games. Something old and hungry has come to the city with these games. The Hanged Man....enforced sacrifice. RITUAL: Voodoo Museum/Voodoo Spiritual Temple at NFL Players Party
WILL: Contact with those who the loa choose
LOVE: Litany, Legba, Ogun
SUCCESS: Minimal; did not call Damballah as planned
COMMENT: Very well received by audience. Part of the people hired to perform with the Temple would not go on again with the Damballah part of the rite unless more money was guaranteed. Said to do so would be unprofessional. So...Spirit called us back while professionalism said only if there is a guarantee of more money. Hired performers would not go back on. My strongest image of the event is Charles pulling a 150 pound snake all over the backstage area, onto and off of the shuttle to the event, in a plastic garbage can. Snake in a can...
Saturday 25: CARNIVAL - March with Krewe Du Vieu Carrie through the Quarter. Called to the loa on Decater Street. We played the Bamboula Rhythm through most of the Parade. About half of the drummers in Nuteria also play at the Voodoo Spiritual Temple. Like the ritual last night, we did not play as scheduled at the big party after the parade. Lots of similarities, definitely a current. Hit by car (not hurt) walking back. Definitely quite a Carnival night. The joys of excess! - In Egyptian hieroglyphs, the sign for "elder," "cane," and "word" are the same. Legba's cane as the Word?
Sunday 26: Literally forced myself to rest. Carnival is in my blood. "Doing" calls at all levels.
Monday 27: Completed reading ZEN AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE. Strong philosophy and an interesting narrative. Drew parrallel between Excellence/arte/dharma/Quality/Spirit (in the sense of having spirit)/esprit/virtue.
Tuesday 28: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple; To Damballah
WILL: Honor and Respect to the Great Snake. Create a daughter of the Temple.
LOVE: Ritual shorter than usual but gained power quickly. Good long Damballah section. Filmed for Japanese T.V.
SUCCESS: Damballah danced in the air. One of the Japanese in the filming crew became a daughter of the Temple.
COMMENT: Don DuFrane and Mishlen were drumming. Tasty rhythms. Interesting to think of the reception the filming will get in Japan.
Wednesday 29: A time for friends. Suzanne and Leilah and Daniel. With the rituals, Black Moon, and MoonWeb there is little time for anything else.
Thursday 30: News that Mishlen's mother has cancer. This is very sad. I try to see some benefit in any situation but this is very difficult.
Friday 31: Couple from Australia staying with us. They heard of us through purchasing the Voodoo Tarot in Austrailia. The loa have a long reach.
