Friday 1: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple - Greetings on the New Year to Priestess Miriam and to the Loa. Praise to the coolness of Blanc Dan-i.
Saturday 2: Reconstructing broken prayer beads. Purple and white. They are part of a morning ritual that I value.
Sunday 3: I have for the first time read the entire draft of the Congo Square Mss. So many voices within the mss.
Monday 4: RITUAL: Temple Blanc Dan-i; Thanks to Spirits. WILL: Thanks to Mary and Ellegua for keeping house safe
LOVE: Offerings of smoke and affection/attention
SUCCESS: Well done
COMMENT: I had promised this so performed the rite even though we did not go to Bloomington and Cincinnati.
Tuesday 5: What is the difference between rewarding and thanking a spirit? Does one reward a spirit and thank a fully realized being? Again, this seems to get back to the position of the magician on the food chain.
Wednesday 6: What would be a workable and clear description (nomenclature?) of the types of sentient beings a magician regularly deals with?
Thursday 7: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Celebrate first rite in Peristyle Dantour of New Year.
LOVE: Piano, Legba Litany, Ogu/Annie Christmas, Mama Waters
SUCCESS: Fine
COMMENT: Bells and one other instrument played themselves on Mama Waters. Miriam had a sense of rhythmic movement through the waters. This is a new rhythm; good confirmation.
During Ogu/Annie Christmas rhythm first walked Ogu then Annie Christmas then both together. Both walked together. Powerful.
Friday 8: To Pensacola to work on new mss.
Saturday 9: RITUAL: Pensacola; Sea side WILL: Greetings to the Spirits of the Ocean
LOVE: Cleansing and Blessings with the salt water and sand.
SUCCESS: Weak
COMMENT: I allowed the wind and cold to drive me from the water. I'll be better dressed next time.
Sunday 10: RITUAL: Sea and Moon rite to mark beginning of new Mss WILL: To dedicate new mss.
LOVE: Offerings to the Moon and Waters; Bread, alcohol, candy, tobacco, small piece of paper like I will write on
SUCCESS: Excellent
COMMENT: More mentally and physically prepared for the wind and cold.
Monday 11: Moving toward completion of first edit on complete Congo Square Mss. Mishlen and I will be working together on the new Mss. Tentative title is A SORCERERS WORK; New Orleans Voodoo, Western Mysteries, and the Dharma. This includes African via New Orleans, The Western or European, the Oriental Dharma. Mishlen will concentrate on the Dharma.
Tuesday 12: Edit Congo Square mss.
Wednesday 13: Video of preacher. Passion, belief, and failings. The ability to keep on, the balance matters.
Thursday 14: RITUAL: New Orleans Voodo Spiritual Temple WILL: Honor and Respect to the Spirits
LOVE: Order of Service
SUCCESS: Well done.
COMMENT: Someone asked about problems during the milenium. Priestess Miriam told them to worry about the good, smooth times. It is when times are smooth that people forget their spiritual practices.
Friday 15: Guests from Brooklyn/Haiti. Got King Cake, my Birthday cake today. Part to guests, part to all beings. Part to all the spirits. The woman is very familiar.
Saturday 16: Wangater...someone who makes Wangas. This is a lot like a Worker he made the point that the terms wanga and obeah are interchangable in Haiti.
Sunday 17: My aunt called. She was injured and the woman guest picked up the phone before it rang. Perhaps this has to do with the familiarity. I am sure that it does RITUAL:Expedition with Vladimer
WILL: To strengthen his comunication with the loa
LOVE: Sitting at mirror. Positioned myself behind him and drummed and asked the loa to speak through me.
SUCCESS: They came
COMMENT: V. wants to increase his communication with the loa. Especially Simbi. He is a magician over many lives. He simply needs to learn to see with new eyes.
Monday 18: RITUAL:Mishlen performed, Face Masks to contact Angel. WILL: For Vlad to more easily contact the Master of his Head; his angel.
LOVE: Constructed masks from plaster of paris of his and others faces. Then each is to feed and communicate with his or her mask.
SUCCESS: Vlad (Haitian man) called the idea brilliant.
COMMENT: Mishlen has great insights. It remains to be seen how this will work out. I think it depends on the amount of effort Vlad puts into the care of the mask once he is home.
Tuesday 19: Began to prep the mss for Pelican Press. This is the first submission and they will have 3 months to read the mss before another submission can be made.
Wednesday 20: Reading SOUTHERN WOMEN BLACK AND WHITE. There is a small reference to courtship dances. The words could describe Congo Square. Congo Square could have been a place of courtship along with all else it was/is. This would help to push up the idea of the fancy dress (attract lovers) I believe was worn at the rituals on the Square.
Thursday 21: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL :Honor and Respect to the loa.
LOVE: Order of Service with special attention to OguBatala.
SUCCESS: Obatala originally was the Master of the Drums.
COMMENT: The Haitian servitor staying with us and I were talking. He emphasized how "Ogu" was added to the various loa. Like a shot of iron. Very good.
Friday 22: Mishlen is up in Alabama with 50 or so tornadoes. There's a daughter of Oya for you.
Saturday 23: Conversation with Mishlen, She has a tremendous insight that equates gravity with karma. Aggregates are created by karma. Karma and gravity hold things together; each within its own sphere of operation.
Sunday 24: Cutting banana trees after the freeze. Thanking them as I work. I had a ladder braced up against a large tree and the ladder wobbled. The tree held; if not I could have easily broken something or other. Much thanks.
Monday 25: Work on Sabbatical and book. Five hours of reformatting and last minute revisions of grammar. Soon it will go to Pelican Publishing.
Tuesday 26: Spent most of the evening at Kaldi's. This is the first session at a coffee house in weeks. Most of the editing to date had to be done on the big ol' computer. I like to write with people around. I seldom have much to say but there is so much to write.
Wednesday 27: Rest. The actress who plays Zena in a Television series came to the Temple for a reading.
Thursday 28: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Marassa; introduce new gift, bowels to feed the Marassa, from the Haitian couple.
LOVE: Odd order of service, Spirit can into Miriam heavy; new songs; everyone there moved. Solid Annie Christmas mountings.
SUCCESS: Very strong
COMMENT: Mombo Miriam started singing about the willow tree. Creolize, and one piece that caught the spirit of New Orleans. Peristyle Dantour crowded with people dancing. My glasses almost fell off I was sweating so much. Volunteers are needed at the Temple. So much can be done. Joey has begun to record when spirit speaks through Miriam. A volunteer to transcribe the tapes would be great.
Friday 29: Video WILD MAN BLUES with Woody Allen. He went on tour playing old time New Orleans jazz.
Saturday 30: RITUAL: Chicken Man's Funeral WILL: Wake the Spirit/Relax the body
LOVE: Order of Service at Funeral Home, Jazz Funeral with horse drawn carnage into Quarter and up Bourbon Street. Speeches and the City Council honored him with a proclamation. SUCCESS: Beautifully done.
COMMENT: Jazz funeral...and just saw WILD MAN BLUES last night, Treme Brass Band. His body say for days and days with no money to bury it. Now he goes off with such a bang. Joey remarked on the irony.
Sunday 31: Post DANCING LIGHT ON CONGO SQUARE to Pelican Press. It is in the hands of the spirits the loa the buddhas. So mote it be!
