Tuesday 1: Congo Square mss - Manman Brigitte is coming through good. She identified herself with Maat and the feather. I feel a new immediate closeness to Maggie. Her work and the Congo Square mss are now very strongly linked.

Frank Salerno has passed. Salerno is almost synominous with botanica. Salerno's botanica has been around quite a while in New Orleans. I believe that the Snow Ball place down the street was connected in some way to the botanica. You pay for a snowball and they give you the snowball and a holy card. I had one of their holy cards on the door to the house for a long time.
Wednesday 2: Ah! As Priestess Miriam says, "revisioning". Went to a drum lesson led by Kenyata as a part of the Herd of Nutria reforming. These are all drum tech/rhythms I have done before. The same but different...that seems to be a key. They have more depth now. They resonate over a much larger area of my life. I'm inspired to work on drum session with Lyrus.
Thursday 3: The statement, "All is permitted, nothing is forbidden" is in essence childish. There is no parent/God/ess to permit or forbid. The statement assumes the possibility of some such force in order to negate it. There is only consequence; success (Liber L) or that which succeeds(comes after)...as the Tibetans would call it "karma."
Friday 4: RITUAL: Salerno's Wake in the morning; Funeral home next door to the Botanica; Miriam, Steven, and me
WILL: Support to family; Wake the spirit and Rest to the body
LOVE: Prayers and offerings
SUCCESS: Strong; with an element of confusion
COMMENT: Miriam spoke to his wife about offering at his personal alters, The wife did not know the rites but through her long years with Salerno had definite ideas as to what to do. Miriam ended with, "Spirit will guide you, you will know the right thing to do." Miriam gave me the bell to wake the Spirit. I rang it to the directions over the casket. When I touched the forehead, the corpse grimaced and moved its head to the left side with chin slightly up. I became confused for a moment; my will was to wake the spirit not the body. My sense was that the body wanted rest very badly. The corpse returned to its past position and I continued with prayers to wake the spirit.
The family later said that before passing, Salerno just wanted to rest; he was in pain. Also, Miriam said the gesture with the head was one that he commonly used in life. I must be more careful in the future to avoid waking the body when I work at waking the Spirit.
- When I first entered the Funeral Home. I felt great sorrow. A sense of unity. We all want happiness and to avoid suffering. This is what Salerno wanted. He did good and he did bad as all of us do. He offered animals and they suffered. All who eat meat offer animals if not to feed the spirits, then to feed our own hunger. Bitter Sweet...the suffering in existence.

COMMENT: I offered corn, nuts, etc. to all of the living beings in the Temple courtyard. Offerings made in Salerno's name to help balance any lives he may have purposely or accidently taken. We all hurt and help. We are all in the world together.
Saturday 5: EQUUS at Le Petite. The Dr. at one point says the world is only understandable "through a thousand local Gods." This quote could have a fine place on MoonWeb.
Sunday 6: Work on Congo Square Mss.
Monday 7: Congo Square Mss - Ah! Now there is a dual possession by Manman Brigitte and Papa Shovel.
Tuesday 8: JED's two occult stories are packed and ready to go to Australia for scanning to be put on MoonWeb. The stories are about 250 pages each.
Wednesday 9: Rest.
Thursday 10: RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Inaugurate Rituals in the Temple's new space; Peristyle Dantour as named by Priestess Miriam and the loa. I ask Marie Laveau's help with her part of the Congo Square mss.
LOVE: Order of Service with Piano played by wandering Jewish Mystic from New York.
SUCCESS: Strong to disjointed.
COMMENT: An excellent beginning. Spiritual part of the Voodoo Spiritual Temple coming out. Priestess Miriam sang a moving "Swing Low Sweet Chariot". This could be a more complete joining of the Voodoo and the Spiritualism. Disjointedness could be corrected with more attention to an Order of Service. BUT I must be very cautious of any rigidity. This is a new current and for maximum benefit must be allowed to establish its own channels.
Friday 11: Reading AGUIRRE; THE LEFT HAND OF GOD . . . karma as debt; this debt keeps you in identification with the small self.
Saturday 12: Annual Christmas trip to a mall. Went to River Walk Mall. That is the one that the barge rammed, I believe it was last year. Fun for about an hour then Mishlen started getting sick and I got a headache. God rest you merry capitalists.
Sunday 13: A lack of connection to the Visible and Invisible worlds seems to be the source of evil. In the Tree of Life, the tree was first destroyed because the mezla flowed down each pillar separately. The zigzag path of connection allowed the tree to accept the power and not be destroyed.
Monday 14: Chicken Man passed. A Voodoo Priest from a less "sophisticated" time. it is hard to imagine him giving a lecture. Something great is lost each time one of these old devotees pass.
Tuesday' 15: Miriam wants to move into higher spiritual work. All of the people with husbands/wives they want started/stopped are beginning to seem heavy. To be never ending. One unending problem after another. She wants to teach people to help themselves. Help people to help themselves.
After the Congo Square Mss. I think that Miriam and I working together could come up with something (lessons?) very strong.
- Is karma connection or disconnection?
Wednesday 16: D.R.U.M. Performance - At parish school. I said we were going to play Bamboula and that this was a rhythm played by Dr. John long ago on Congo Square. It feels good to remember his name, especially to young ears.
Thursday 17: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple; Peristyle Dantour. WILL: To Babalou; complete cycle of the year at the Temple.
LOVE: Order of Service, Priestess Miriam had a lengthy possession by Babalou; participants stepped on/cleaned feet on jute mat spread with popcorn and all; his foods.
SUCCESS: Very Strong; great completion to the year of Thursday Rituals.
COMMENT: Steven asked about Babalou and I said that he is the spirit who suffers. He is an immense presence. Like in Dostoevsky (THE IDIOT, I think), when the one character bows to the other because the other will undergo great suffering). I was a bit nervous about not having earth to stand on when he came. But OK. I started to cry when he came. Tears of gratitude.
- Ogun started to take me while I was drumming. This contact with Ogun is unusual for me. I sort of wedged myself in between the piano and some large object on the floor. This allowed my body to thrash about but still help provide a steady rhythm for the dancers
Friday 18: To Houston for Mishlen to try harps. We always seen to travel south to north. Its is so good to see new territory... east to west.
- "Mind like an angry snake" from book Mishlen is reading. Good description for some mind streams I get into.
Saturday 19: Value of suffering...As Crowley said @, "The magus cries on the inside and laughs on the outside."
- Found the following in my "mind." Note from my trip back to New Orleans in August. New Orleans and Bloomington both feel like home. Both welcome me with open arms. I embrace Bloomington and hold it like a fragile child. It holds me gently. I embrace New Orleans and it hugs me back. I say, "Not so hard."
Sunday 20: RITUAL: Home Temple; Winter Ritual WILL: Welcome spirits and forces of this winter.
LOVE: Litany of Legba thanking each spirit/loa/awakened one.
SUCCESS: Well done
COMMENT: The litany is a strong and beautiful building.
Monday 21: Car of B&B guest stolen. Up by House of Blues. Looking for car till 5 am. Her reservation was not confirmed. She was perty drunk and not sure where she left her car.
Tuesday 22: Electronic mail is complete for the year.
Wednesday 23: Congo Square Mss. The mss is moving toward completion. I believe that my having to stay in New Orleans is a big factor in the progress of the mss.
Thursday 24: TC is having problems. He is my brother . . . he is hot while I am the cool. May I bring my coolness to his problems.
- Work on Congo Square mss.
Friday 25: This is quite a magickal retreat. I am writing and completing the tasks of 1998. This would be a good thing to do for a week around Yule on a yearly basis.
Saturday 26: RITUAL: Home Temple; Mange Marassa WILL: Feed the creation. The first emanation ( 0=2)
LOVE: Traditional foods offered. I ate the same type of foods later.
SUCCESS: Well done.
COMMENT: The Marassa (children) can not feed themselves. This makes the rite very unique and important.
Perhaps the worker should eat the same foods to affirm a self creation. The mind bringing all into existence.
Sunday 27: Congo Square Mss - I celebrated today. Lizabeth has learnt about forgiveness.
Monday 28: Iron John has the last word in the story except for the epilogue where Congo Square speaks. This is quite a surprise to me about Iron John.
Tuesday 29: Mishlen read the mss to date. She said that the end is better than the beginning. I'm getting more proficient at letting the spirits speak through me.
Wednesday 30: Car was packed and even had a hot cup of coffee in it for the trip. Found out just how bad the weather was predicted to be just as I was leaving. This is the third time in two weeks I have been stopped from going to Cincinnati/Bloomington. Two ice storms and a bad cold. There is a pattern here.
Thursday 31: The Congo Square Mss DANCING LIGHT ON CONGO SQUARE is complete. I did the last section, Congo Square speaking, this evening. I believe that I was kept in New Orleans by the storms and all so that I could complete the mss.
- First food and drink of year offered to the ancestors and all sentient beings.
