Sunday 12/1: Working on material from Festivals over the Summer. So much time was spent over the Summer at Festivals...I don't know if it is best to be going to so many.
Monday 12/2: Evening of solid work on MoonWeb.
Tuesday 12/3: Received message that one or more of the people killed in the robbery in the Quarter was a drummer with Nuteria, the Carnival Krewe most of us play with. This certainly made the tragedy more real.
Wednesday 12/4: Working on Tree of Life and positioning of the Invisibles. Placement of Da or pure movement in Kether is a refinement from the arrangement in the Voodoo Tarot.
Thursday 12/5: RITUAL: In front of Louisiana Pizza Kitchen in the Quarter where three were murdered; Drum Rite as a part of the drum vigil or Nuteri.
WILL: To provide a smoother passage to the three who died so suddenly.
LOVE: Drumming, dancing, and calls to the loa. I wanted to provide a steady and familiar rhythm for the spirits of those murdered to walk upon in their travels. I also worked to have Papa Legba open the gate to the dead to go Beyond (as in Heart Sutra ma ntra). Miriam dance and tranced to help those murdered.
SUCCESS: Very strong for both of my intentions and for Miriam's work.
COMMENT: Fought off beginning of possession during first 10 minites of drumming or so. Smoothly beyond that.
I have received a tremendous gift from the loa. The linking of my love for Papa with the road which the drums construct with (my) drive to experience the states of the Heart Sutra.
Friday 12/6: Brandi is no longer working with the Voodoo Museum. This will give her time for EuroProductions and her new catalogue. She has a great love for the loa of New Orleans and a good heart, the blessings of the loa should follow her in what she does
Saturday 12/7: Time with T & C. A woman just returned from Tibet was there. She let me play one of her drums. Beautiful high tones.
Sunday 12/8: RITUAL: To Shongo
WILL: Honor to the orisha
LOVE: Prayer to Shongo and songs. Hung a tree with large red ribbons.
SUCCESS: The majesty of Shongo as a guide in the journey beyond.
COMMENT: The words of the prayer in yuroban swirled together to form a Royal Road for the going.
Monday 12/9: Work on the positioning of the loa, orisha, and Great Spirits on the Tree of Life. This is something I had done for the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot. Am reworking the correspondences to include more of the New Orleans loa and information from Dagbo Hounan received during his visit from Wedo. In particular the DA as movement. The new arrangement places DA in Kether.
Tuesday 12/10: Going through the photos of Oswan's Funeral with Miriam for placement on MoonWeb. There are many photos I have that Miriam had not seen before. It is a beautiful and emotional thing to go through the photos like this with Miriam. The memory of the Hou ngan Oswan Chimani now will take on a wider base.
Wednesday: 12/11 Ah! It looks as if the Fulbright Teacher Exchange with England is nearly assured. Chances are that I will be doing this work from England next year.
Thursday 12/12: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple
WILL: Honor to the Spirits, in particular BabaLou
LOVE: Ritual in Courtyard. Beautiful, powerful rhythms from Luis.
SUCCESS: Dark Spirits of the air watched from corners of the Temples ancient buildings.
COMMENT: Babalou walks on a powerful rhythm.
Friday 12/13: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple in Bougoulasa, La.
WILL: Service to the Barons for a Carnival Krewe.
LOVE: In the Bayous, people dressed as skeletons, the Dukes as corpses with wrapped chin.
SUCCESS: Fast paced, the ritual took its own form.
COMMENT: Strongest memory is of Miriam spinning holding a smoking small cauldren. Immediate flash...charge.
Saturday 12/14: I have become the new secretary for the Voodoo Spiritual Temple. Working on the 6 month Temple Record for the newsletter, The Voodoo Realist.
Sunday 12/15: Complete record for the Temple. Its all so subjective. I chose to record those events that have continuing teaching value to me and to others.
MONDAY 12/16: Student Drum Group I teach plays Bamboula at school. Bomb threat before the performance. During the day a man wandered into the yard and said he wanted to go to jail and that he was going to blow up the school. Very high on crack. Lots of police but a ssembly and performance went on. So......who is the victim? My guess is that the man wanted to go to jail to get off the crack. So who is the victim? School did not seem to explode that night.
TUESDAY 12/17: RITUAL: Voodoo Spiritual Temple; filming by Fox
WILL: Honor and Respect to the loa
LOVE: Very long section to Papa Legba with Priestess Miriam singing. Special attention to Damballa.
SUCCESS: Strong presence of Damballa, La Grande Zombi took the opportunity to urinate heavily for about 5 minutes of the filming. Miriam carried her around and blessed all present with the sacred waters. Used "Beyond" (Gate') in calls to Papa Legba for the first time. very strong, I timed some of the calls with the movement of the boom mike. Didn't ask what the footage was for but Gate' and gate should be widely broadcast.
COMMENT: Not feeling well. Said I would only come if needed. Only Singh and Julia showed up to drum and they do much of the dancing. I came in with a horrible attitude. The crew was so kind that I calmed down quickly. Miriam had told them I was sick. That is beautiful.
WEDNESDAY 12/18: Forcast of snow and 28 degree temperature. In New Orleans this is a disaster. School called off and a Mayors Emergency Meeting. Bought plywood for bottom of house and insulation for pipes. The house is 100 years old and the pipes have never been insul ated. Now I know why as first hand knowledge. Oh Lord, the house is up about 2 feet to avoid flooding and what had made homes under it during all of those years. I know, I'm crawling through it all.
THURSDAY 12/19: Louis the House Holder - wrap, wrap, wrap (pipes)...to Dr.sick, a micro/macrocosmic situation....cold outside....I get a Cold inside.
FRIDAY 12/20: Sick; wrap, wrap, wrap...
SATURDAY 12/21: RITUAL: Winter Solstice; Temple Blanc Dan-i
WILL: Feed the Great Snake DA as it turns up from inside the earth and begins its journey up toward the light.
LOVE: In Temple. Praise of DA to catch the Snakes attention. Food to foot of tree in courtyard.
SUCCESS: Food accepted
COMMENT: This ritual has gathered extra meaning due to cold streak. The ritual is even more important in the North where the seasons are more marked.
- Work on e-mail intervew. Replying to questions in the moment; not from an old script.
SUNDAY 12/22: Ahhh! Ti' Kala, the house snake, got out. Spent afternoon looking for him. Ritual yesterday was DA moving up toward the light. Today Ti' Kala moved up and out of her environment. She must have pushed a brick out of the way. A part of the ritual for DA. Confusion of the plains; maybe. -Interview. I wrote that I did not know the answer to one question. The person conducting the interview wanted to erase the question and my" I don't know." response. I asked him to leave the section intact. It is more important to say the you do not know than to say that you know.
MONDAY 12/23: Feeling a bit better. Taking it easy. Some work on MoonWeb. Stopped over to Voodoo Spiritual Temple to say "see you" before leaving town. Miriam gave me one of the three Temple medallions. I am so touched and absolutely speechless.
TUESDAY 12/24: To Cincinnati. Work on VOODOO FAQ. An excellent idea from Singh Li. Mishlen and I riding in the car. Very creative when we both add text.
WEDNESDAY 12/25: Received great book with photo of the Dali Lama on cover. He is speaking about violence, especially in the cities. Judging from the bomb threat at the last drum performance, this is an important book for me to read. Mishlen is studying Stupa building. As part of the ritual a Serpent Lord is rotated as the year turns. This is very like the movement of Da (Damballa) in and out of the earth with the seasons.
Thursday 12/26: Paper for Black Moon. Odd, we get the best price on paper in Cincinnati.
Friday 12/27: See Joe. He will place some of his computer art in MoonWeb AND has voiced some interest in working with Black Moon again. Very exciting. Mishlen spoke to Joe about this. Quite a Yule present.
Saturday 12/28: MoonWeb meeting. Beautiful! Bate Cabal is invigorating as usual. To Bloomington.
Sunday 12/29: Tibetan Center/Mr. Norbu and Family. Good reasons to keep up strong contact with Bloomington. Sleep very early; it is so quiet here.
Monday 12/30: RITUAL: Wedding of Marty and Linda.
WILL: Union of Ancestors
LOVE: Each had a cup of earth. Spoke names of known ancestors into the earth. Honored names of unknown ancestors. Made sign of the Marassa Conjoined. With thumb and small finger, took out bit of earth. Each placed that bit on the three outstretched finger s of the other. Then joined their outstretched fingers and tossed earth behind them (position of the Ancestors in daily affairs). Kept earth in cups as talisman. Three children from other marriages present took Marty and Linda's hands and joined them.
SUCCESS: Lines of ancestors joined.
COMMENT: The time the marriage lasts is irrevelent. The ancestors are joined and the children really joined Marty and Linda.
- The ancient gailac word for "Eve" is "aoife" which is pronounced "ifa." Very interesting.
Tuesday 12/31: Revolved the past year within my mind. Meditation with the children of the House. Drumming with the adults to bring the new year in. I re-member what a very holy Legba told me...."A whole new year. All new and whole."
