The Magickal Record of Louis Martinie': April 1999

Thursday 1
RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Honor and Respect to Dr. John
LOVE: Order of Service, placed Dr. John's information on Marie Laveau's alter.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: A celebration of the information gained by Cheryl at the Smithsonian. Scullie Ellie and her children present for first time at the ritual. One of the children lay down in front of the drums and went into sleep. This was during a Yenvelou for Damballah.

Friday 2
So, I am beginning to get some small sense of the webs importance in terms of communication. HML Lodge is opening this up for me.

Saturday 3
A tiny lizard seemed to jump out of nowhere onto my shoulder. He remained there for some time before biding me adieu. A reminder that lizards are power beings along with the insects.

Sunday 4
Sante' and the importance of the Spider Loa. "Being In Itself" and "Being of Itself" merge within these loa's touch.

Monday 5
Invited Bill Seibert (Frater PVN) to use a portion of MoonWeb.

Tuesday 6
Brought Owen into touch with the HML Lodge and their MediaMagick project. If HML and Owen work together the result could be a magnificent CD.

Wednesday 7
Speaking to a friend at Kaldi's about the various OTO Camps. Small gains and small losses measured against the Greater Feast.

Thursday 8
RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple
WILL: Feast Of Mercy; first Sunday after Estrus
LOVE: Order of Service, focus on Obatala and Blanc dan-i.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: Beautifully done

Friday 9
Sabbatical Forms. Three pages of questions.

Saturday 10
Working in the attic and under the house. Ann Rice has perhaps given the most accurate description of what can be found under a 100 year old house in New Orleans.

Sunday 11
Setting up travel plans for trip to Austria for Spider Rituals

Monday 12
Writing to form committee for sabbatical. My first snowball after Lent. Definitely not the taste of ashes.

Tuesday 13
Mishlen was talking about antonyms. Saying that there are no two words that mean the same thing. Each word is unique.
Presentation at work . . . "In order to keep growing one must start over at the point of the greatest success,"

Wednesday 14
To tired. Doing too much. Lent is over. Last Thursday after the ritual I was delirious from lack of sleep. Shit in the bed, Did not know where I was. This kind of thing from drugs is understandable. But lack of sleep? I could actually damage my body.

Thursday 15
RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple WILL: Honor and respect to the Temple Flags
LOVE: Order of Service. Particular attention paid to the Temple flags
SUCCESS: Slow start, then strong
COMMENT: The flags are ascended veves capable of movement in both the Visible and Invisible worlds.

Friday 16
Posted five letters via postal service. Pen to paper. With e mail I now send so few letters.

Saturday 17
First drum mss from Llewellyn for review. By a drummer that played with Zappa. Could be good.

Sunday 18
Call to Gwenivere. She is not well. One of my closest friends.

Monday 19
Sabbatical. Excited about the prospect of writing about ethics and morals. So interesting to study.

Tuesday 20
E mail bursting with messages. I must examine my will on this. Is this the most important thing I can be doing with my active, scheduled time? Does it provide benefit to others? If not, one "delete" could wipe out those that are not.

Wednesday 21
Mishlen spoke of the importance of keeping a sense of awe. It is so easy for the most exotic things and activities to become so common.

Thursday 22
RITUAL: New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple. WILL: Blessing of the Drums
LOVE: Order of Service. Red palm oil used in the blessing. Touched heads of the individual drums to the head of the Temple drum.
SUCCESS: Strong
COMMENT: Unity of the drums. In spirit and in rhythm.

Friday 23
Working on text for the StarWood Festival ritual. Jeff sent the text back to me with the note that most people going to the Festival would not be able to understand my descriptions of the presentations. Its hard to think of "loa" as a confusing term.

Saturday 24
Festival International de Louisiana in Lafayette.

Sunday 25
The days are becoming hot. Courtyard full of life. Huge roaches and small snakes.

Monday 26
Sabbatical. The curriculum must be as much for parents and teachers as for students.

Tuesday 27
Active and passive uses of the mind. Active is focus on passionate involvement in a work of will. Passive is the no thought of meditation. To rest in Riga. To simply allow the mind to rest in a fascinating alertness.

Wednesday 28
Call from DR on physical. Ah! how I worry and cling to this life. I am well.

Thursday 29
RITUAL: To the Barons; To the Ancestor WILL: Honor and learn from the Dead.
LOVE: Legba to Ogun to the Barons (Banda)
SUCCESS: A pleasure to look into the Barons dark eyes.
COMMENT: A back rooster and a white chicken and a stripped chicken were discovered dead during the ceremony. Earlier, it seems, they had got into some plant chemicals. Miriam had felt like crying all evening but could not say why. Now she knew. The birds were close to her. She had the rooster for two years. Temple pets. The Barons were well fed. No reason for them to take the birds. Spiritual disruptions predicted for this time seem to be coming to the fore.

Earlier that day I saw a small scorpion on the hood of my car. I helped it off and sent it on its way by some banana trees. Asked for contact with the insect scorpion loa to relay to Tzeenj who requested info through the HML. I was given a fine technique. The use of clicks like the clacking of small claws. So many wonderful uses....to draw the Baron Zaraguin closer, a spiritual morse code.

Friday 30
RITUAL: May Eve Rite; Ocean with Mishlen; To ease the pain of Kosovo WILL: Seek the help of Mama Waters and the Awakened Ones
LOVE: To the sea at night; Offering of life current from hands. Two veves, one of a bird. I could hear its scream as I completed this veve. And of a Heart and a serpent. I am not sure why my hand was guided to draw the bird or the snake on the heart.
SUCCESS: Two sky bodies showed themselves. Mishlen believes they are Saturn and Mars. They created a straight line pointing to the moon. Huge shapes rose from and reentered the waters. Mama Waters closeness washed over me.
The heart veve brought the Heart Sutra to me.
"Gone, Gone, Gone Beyond , Gone Beyond Beyond. Hail The Goer." Thought that this mantra could also apply to going beyond hate and fear. - Owen's invocation, "Angels of Dark Water and Night."The clouds passed across the face of the moon in riotous progress. Each unique and bringing with it an appreciation of nights splendor.
COMMENT: It was Mishlen's suggestion to do this ritual. Most times I appreciate a bit of prodding. A song came to her on the dark beach. Beautiful. She sang it to the waves.

May Eve For Kosovo
I sing, upon the edge, of sea tonight The full moon rises in, its single light & I cry out, to the silver stars and sea Stop the violence wrought that should not be.

Those who bring Moon silver, up to my feet The waves again, they so sweetly meet For such a peace eternal, must rise and win again & stop the violence of, unhappy man.

Free the people who are fleeing fear Free the hates which cause it to come near I pray for those who such hate, love did destroy & families lives torn, like a fragile toy.

The tears rain down from the young and old The weapons fired down, by hate made bold Misunderstanding caused by hate and fear Like the clouds, disperse, then shine again clear.

Saturday May 1
Big sea bird in road by our room. Broken wing. Mishlen picked it up and carried it to the side of the road. The Desk was worried, calling people about the bird. They were glad Mishlen got it out of the street and they called a ranger. I said we would stand the cost to help heal the bird. Ah! Now I know why the bird veve of yesterday.

Sunday 2
RITUAL: Fort Pickens WILL: Honor and Respect to the spirits of Geronimo and BlackHawk
LOVE: Geronimo directed that the offerings be made in eights. Realized while offering wheat and meat that the eight was for the four primary and four mid directions. Last night Mishlen had a vision of canoes in the ocean waters. She told me of this today and I had a vision of Gernimo looking out to sea for the canoes. The offerings were made within the walls of the fort looking out to the sea.
SUCCESS: Canoes on the horizon. The freedom of a fierce heart.
COMMENT: Geranimo was an apache medicine man imprisoned in Fort Pickens. Mishlen sang the May Eve Kosovo song in the Fort itself. Very moving.
