Dear Parents:

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM), would like to extend an invitation to you and your future high school sophomore to join us in a Science and Pre-engineering Information Night for Students (SPIN-S) at NKU. Local school officials were asked to identify potential SPIN candidates that exhibit qualities inherent to the science and engineering fields. Your budding scientist or engineer is among those identified.

Today the United States has to import over 25% of the science and engineering work force from other countries. There is a wealth of untapped talent available in the Northern Kentucky Region. There is no reason any properly informed and motivated student in today’s growing economy cannot develop into the area’s next scientist or engineer. The rewards are plenty: financial stability, personal satisfaction (the “I had a hand in that” experience), and the benefits to society are just a few.

The agenda includes an informative talk on what it means to be a Scientist and an Engineer, how to find detailed information on the specific fields of science and engineering, what classes to take in high school to excel and succeed in college and when to start the process of entering science and engineering. After the information session there will be an opportunity to visit some of the NKU science laboratories, as well as an opportunity to talk with faculty, students and local engineers.

The SPIN Program will take place at NKU in Founders Hall, Room 526 starting at 7:00 P.M. Events have been scheduled for November 26 or December 3, 2007. Please RSVP to Thomas B. Brackman at (859) 572-1938 or by email at brackmant1@nku.edu with the date best suited for you and your Scientist/Engineer to attend. We request that a parent or guardian accompany each student. Please feel free to contact Thomas B. Brackman if you have additional questions

Sincerely:
